The purpose is to assist all parties of the digital advertising ecosystem in adhering to the EU’s GDPR and ePrivacy Directive when handling or storing personal data. Prioritizing the users and providing them with transparency regarding their data’s usage and allowing them to control how their data is utilized based on their preferences.
On May 25, 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force, after a 2-year “grace” period. The IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) v1.1 was launched in April 2018 and subsequently, in August 2019, TCF v2.0 was revised and launched. The previous version of TCF (v1.1) has been phased out, and all relevant parties are now required to use TCF v2.
